Blog Post What’s New in UAC Version 7.4

Do more in 7.4! The latest release of Universal Automation Center (UAC) offers many new features and enhancements, including workload simulations, jobs-as-code, and outbound webhooks.

What’s New in UAC Version 7.4: workload simulations, jobs as code, outbound webhooks, and more

With UAC V7.4, IT automation pros gain new ways to streamline workflows, increase efficiency, and reduce risk. From workload simulations to jobs-as-code to outbound webhooks, this new version offers several useful tools to improve your automation process. UAC 7.4 also includes several security enhancements, such as TLS 1.3 protocol support and DHE/GCM cipher settings. Read on to learn more.

Validate New Workloads Before Going Into Production

Workload Simulation

Reduce the risk of errors or issues that could impact system performance or availability. By simulating new, migrated, or workload or changes before deploying them in a production environment, you can test how they will behave in a controlled environment — and identify any issues or conflicts that may arise. This can help you make any necessary adjustments or fixes before they can cause downtime or negatively impact your systems.

Forecast Variable Run Criteria

The Forecast Variable Run Criteria feature is useful for workflows with complex run/skip criteria that depend on variables or specific conditions. The feature can also help identify potential issues before they occur, making workflows more efficient and reliable.

View Workflow Activity as a Timeline

Look at the big picture by seeing your workflows as a whole! UAC now offers a Gantt chart view of workflow activities so users can see when tasks are scheduled to start and end, and how long each task is expected to take. This kind of visualization can help you:

  • Simplify planning and scheduling.
  • Better understand how tasks relate to each other and how they contribute to the overall workflow.
  • Easily identify potential bottlenecks or delays, as well as areas where improvements or optimizations can be made.

Manage Job Configurations Just Like Business Application Code

The Stonebranch jobs-as-code solution integrates UAC with source control management (SCM) repositories like GitHub and GitLab. This establishes a continuous delivery pipeline that offers version control, testing capabilities, and CI/CD best practices.

Send UAC System Events to Third-Party Applications

UAC now offers outbound webhooks so other applications can subscribe to specific UAC system events. When a subscribed event occurs, UAC sends a webhook to the specified endpoint with details about the event.

Outbound and inbound webhooks are commonly used together for real-time communication between different systems or services to enhance event-driven workload automation and data integration.

Enable More Powerful and Feature-Rich Universal Extensions

In UAC 7.4, the maximum OMS message size has increased from 6MB to 1GB. Large payloads (>6MB) can now be split over several messages, so you can deploy Universal Extensions with large, embedded dependencies.

Boost Security, Performance, and Compliance

Enhanced security capabilities in UAC 7.4 include TLS 1.3 protocol support and DHC/GCM cipher settings. TLS 1.3 provides stronger encryption for more secure communication between clients and servers — protecting against eavesdropping and tampering of data in transit. DHE/GCM ciphers are also designed to provide fast encryption and decryption, which can further improve performance.
