Oettinger Davidoff
Fast, cost-effective migration from Redwood CPS to Stonebranch SAP job scheduling solution.
“It is a great advantage that the Stonebranch solution runs directly on the SAP ABAP stack. This allowed us to significantly reduce the complexity of our SAP landscape. The many technical functions of the solution, combined with the professional training provided by Stonebranch, helped to carry out the transfer from the old solution quickly and safely.”

Background
The Oettinger Davidoff Group is a globally operating, family-owned premium tobacco company with roots dating back to 1875. With approximately CHF 456 million in annual revenue and around 3,300 employees worldwide, the company manages a vertically integrated value chain — from tobacco cultivation in the Dominican Republic and Honduras to a global retail and distribution network spanning 130 countries.
To support its international operations, Oettinger Davidoff relied on Redwood CPS for SAP job scheduling. The solution had met business requirements reliably for years and was deeply integrated into SAP-based processes, including the company’s global logistics interfaces.
When SAP announced the end-of-life of CPS (and later BPA) support in 2020, Oettinger Davidoff was required to reassess its SAP workload automation strategy.
Challenges
SAP’s end-of-life announcement for Redwood CPS required Oettinger Davidoff to replace its existing workload automation solution without disrupting business-critical SAP operations. Their primary goals were to:
- Migrate hundreds of SAP jobs, including its global process and interface framework.
- Avoid operational disruption during transition.
- Implement a lean, scalable solution with strong ROI.
- Reduce SAP landscape complexity.
- Ensure long-term stability and future readiness.
The Search
After a thorough market assessment, Oettinger Davidoff decided to shortlist three vendors. Stonebranch, with its SAP-native job scheduling solution, stood out due to:
- A compelling product and project presentation
- A flexible and transparent pricing model
- Competent consulting and clear communication.
- A lean project organization with minimal external costs
Following the evaluation, Oettinger Davidoff selected the Stonebranch solution to replace Redwood CPS.
The Solution
Working closely with Stonebranch, Oettinger Davidoff implemented the new workload automation solution using a structured, step-by-step migration approach. Key elements of the implementation included:
- Phased job migration: Individual SAP jobs were converted gradually, starting within structured training sessions to enable immediate hands-on learning.
- SAP-native architecture: The Stonebranch solution runs directly on the SAP ABAP stack, eliminating the need for external components and significantly reducing architectural complexity.
- Structured enablement: A holistic training concept ensured knowledge transfer and enabled internal teams to take ownership quickly.
- Independent job management: After go-live, new jobs can be created and scheduled internally with minimal effort.
The migration of remaining jobs was completed rapidly thanks to the intuitive interface and structured methodology.
“Among other things, we use Stonebranch to control our entire process and interface framework with an external partner who ensures global logistics for our products.”
-Josef Huber, Project Management, Oettinger Davidoff
The Results
Training, migration, and go-live were completed in only two months. Oettinger Davidoff successfully replaced Redwood CPS without disrupting operations, while reducing SAP landscape complexity through the ABAP-native architecture of the Stonebranch solution.
Today, SAP jobs are scheduled and managed independently with minimal effort, supported by a scalable solution with low TCO and stable long-term performance.
