Military Bank: Banking on Automation and Orchestration
Military Bank sought a solution to orchestrate their mission-critical Temenos COB workloads and IT operations.
Background
Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB Bank) is a top-tier financial institution in Vietnam, established in 1994. The bank provides a broad range of financial services, including personal and corporate banking, investment banking, and digital banking solutions.
With a comprehensive network of branches and business operations, MB Bank serves millions of customers, including individuals, small businesses, and large enterprises.
As a pioneer in financial technology, MB Bank has been at the forefront of adopting digital banking solutions to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency. With a focus on continuous improvement, MB Bank collaborates with leading technology providers and system integrators to optimize its IT infrastructure and ensure seamless banking operations.
Challenges
The bank has invested heavily in mobile banking applications, digital payment platforms, and cybersecurity measures to maintain its competitive edge in the evolving financial landscape. MB Bank identified key opportunities to enhance their operations:
- Centralized orchestration: With workloads distributed across 4,000–5,000 servers, the bank sought more centralized monitoring and control.
- Automate Temenos COB process: The team saw an opportunity to increase reliability by automating the Close of Business (COB) process in Temenos.
- Strengthened security and compliance: By minimizing manual operations, MB Bank sought to enhance their security and compliance posture through greater consistency and control.
The Search
To address its operational challenges, the MB Bank IT team (MBIT) embarked on a search for an advanced IT automation solution. The bank sought a platform that could centralize workload management, enhance process efficiency, and minimize human intervention in critical banking operations.
Through the evaluation process, MBIT took an active role in consulting industry analysts, like Gartner, and worked closely with their technology partner, SVTECH. After considering multiple vendors (including BMC Control-M), MB Bank selected Stonebranch Universal Automation Center (UAC) for its ease of use, cost-effectiveness, and strong local support.
“The automation of the Temenos COB process with Stonebranch UAC has been a game-changer.
Stonebranch isn’t just a tool — it’s a solution that enables innovation, efficiency, and long-term success.”
The Solution
Working alongside SVTECH, MBIT implemented and customized the Stonebranch UAC platform to orchestrate its mission-critical workloads, including the Temenos Close of Business (COB) process.
- Orchestration of Temenos COB workflows: UAC automates more than 100 interdependent tasks within the Temenos COB process, which ensures all banking transactions for the day are processed, reconciled, and reported before the system transitions to the next business day.
- Centralized management: UAC provides a unified interface to manage, monitor, and control 1+ million tasks across 100+ banking applications and systems.
- Real-time monitoring, alerts and error handling: UAC automatically identifies and mitigates failures, ensuring business continuity. When job failures or SLA breaches occur, UAC sends automated alerts and supports immediate corrective actions.
- Enhanced security and compliance: By reducing manual access to critical systems, UAC enhances security while ensuring regulatory compliance.
“We chose Stonebranch because of their ability to provide a centralized, scalable, and flexible automation framework that would seamlessly integrate with our existing IT infrastructure.”
The Results
Implementing Stonebranch UAC has transformed MB Bank’s operations, particularly in automating the Temenos COB process. By eliminating manual inefficiencies and centralizing workflow automation, the bank has significantly improved processing speed, accuracy, and overall IT productivity.
- Accelerated Temenos COB execution: Reduced Temenos COB runtime by 53 minutes, significantly improving operational efficiency.
- Minimized human errors: Eliminated errors caused by manual input, enhancing process accuracy.
- Improved system visibility: Provided centralized monitoring and real-time tracking of all tasks within the Temenos COB process.
- Increased IT productivity: Freed up IT staff from routine manual tasks, allowing them to focus on higher-value initiatives.
- Seamless knowledge transfer: Standardized workflows help simplify onboarding for new IT personnel.
