Heirloom: Elastic Batch

Product information "Heirloom: Elastic Batch"

The Heirloom Computing Elastic Batch Platform (EBP) is a cloud-centric environment for executing and operating batch jobs, functionally equivalent to an IBM JES2 subsystem. It includes an interpreter for IBM z/OS-compatible Job Control Language (JCL) and the Heirloom Computing Elastic Cloud Scheduler, enabling mainframe batch workloads to run on standard Java application servers in the cloud. This Universal Extension allows users to submit JCL batch jobs to the Elastic Batch Platform, monitor them to completion, and retrieve their execution logs directly from the Universal Controller.

Key Features

  • Submit a JCL job to the Elastic Batch Platform — provided inline or referenced by name from an EBP library location — with the Universal Task reflecting the live job status.
  • Wait for completion by polling the job at a configurable interval until it reaches a terminal SUCCEEDED or FAILED state, and retrieve the CloudWatch execution logs on completion.
  • Restart a failed job automatically from the last failed step, or from a specified step.
  • Determine task success through highest step condition code or SCC (Step Condition Code) testing.
  • Authenticate to the Elastic Batch Platform using static Resolvable Credentials or credentials retrieved from AWS Secrets Manager via an IAM role attached to the EC2 instance.
  • Interact with running jobs through Stop/Resume Dynamic Commands.

What's New 1.4.0:

Enhancements

  • Added: AWS region resolution via the UE_AWS_REGION environment variable, which avoids the EC2 instance metadata service lookup delay on agents that are not running on EC2.
  • Changed: Raised the minimum platform floor to Universal Agent / Universal Controller 7.7.0.0 and Python 3.11.
